Lux Radio Theater – 1984 by George Orwell starring Vincent Price

George Orwell’s 1984 — starring Vincent Price.

George Orwell’s terrifying vision of a society in which government controls information, history, language and even thought comes to life in this rare radio dramatization starring Vincent Price.

Winston Smith lives beneath the constant gaze of Big Brother, quietly questioning a world where truth can be rewritten, individuality is dangerous and independent thought itself has become a crime.

Vincent Price brings his unmistakable voice and dramatic presence to Orwell’s landmark dystopian story — one of the twentieth century’s most influential warnings about surveillance, propaganda and authoritarian control.

Programming note: This recording is associated with the Australian Lux Radio Theatre presentation “Echoes of a Century — 1984” from 1955, rather than the standard American Lux Radio Theatre series.

It fits B4TV’s Great Storytelling programming beautifully: classic literature, unforgettable performances and stories that remain disturbingly relevant generations later.

And Bobby, these five are exactly why Lux belongs on Sunday Great Storytelling. Wizard of Oz → Mr. Deeds → Miracle on 34th Street → A Star Is Born gives you Hollywood classics, while something like 1984 lets the night suddenly get literary and strange. That Sunday block can become ridiculously good.
