The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes :: Colonel Warburton’s Madness

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson return in “Colonel Warburton’s Madness,” a classic old-time radio mystery starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. First aired on September 10, 1945 over the Mutual Network, this episode sends Holmes into one of those deliciously strange cases where reputation, sanity, and sinister motives all start dancing around the same foggy London lamp post.

Unlike many Holmes radio plays, “Colonel Warburton’s Madness” is not a direct adaptation of an original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story, but one of the series’ “untold” Sherlock Holmes adventures — the kind of mystery that feels like it could have been pulled from Watson’s locked desk drawer. With Rathbone’s razor-sharp Holmes and Bruce’s warm, charming Watson, this episode delivers exactly what B4TV listeners come for: deduction, danger, atmosphere, and a proper Baker Street puzzle.
