You Are There | Lexington, Concord and Merriam’s Corner | B4TV Radio History Theater

You are there will be entering it’s normal Wednesday Night Timeslot this Wednesday at 8pm! But we’re running an episode tonight for you to get a preview of the program! If you enjoy it! Comment!

On April 19, 1775, the road from Boston to Concord became the road to revolution.

In this episode of You Are There, CBS Radio brings listeners into the opening clash of the American Revolution with its signature “live news from history” format. Reporters cover the tense hours surrounding Lexington, Concord, and Merriam’s Corner as British regulars march into the Massachusetts countryside and colonial militia companies gather in response.

The fighting at Lexington and Concord marked the first armed conflict of the American Revolution. According to the National Park Service, the battle spread across roughly 16 miles along the Bay Road and involved approximately 1,700 British regulars and more than 4,000 colonial militia.

Rather than treating history like a distant textbook chapter, You Are There presents the moment as if CBS correspondents were reporting directly from the scene — urgent, dramatic, and immediate. The result is one of old-time radio’s most inventive historical drama formats: part reenactment, part documentary, part breaking-news broadcast from the past.

This B4TV presentation features the episode commonly listed as “Lexington, Concord and Merriam’s Corner,” originally broadcast on August 22, 1948 as part of the CBS historical drama series later known as You Are There.

For fans of classic radio, American history, Revolutionary War stories, CBS radio drama, historical reenactments, and Golden Age broadcasting, this episode captures the spark that helped ignite the fight for American independence.
