Lux Radio Theater – Treasure Island {James Mason, Bobby Drisco, Nigel Bruce}

Lux Radio Theatre presents TREASURE ISLAND, starring James Mason, Bobby Driscoll and Nigel Bruce.

Robert Louis Stevenson’s legendary tale of pirates, buried treasure, mutiny and adventure comes to life in this lavish radio adaptation of Treasure Island.

Bobby Driscoll stars as young Jim Hawkins, whose discovery of a mysterious treasure map sends him aboard ship in search of Captain Flint’s buried fortune. But among the crew is one of literature’s greatest villains — the charming, dangerous and unforgettable Long John Silver, played here by James Mason. Nigel Bruce joins the cast as Squire Trelawney.

Originally broadcast January 29, 1951, this Lux production turns Stevenson’s classic into a full-scale Golden Age radio adventure filled with secret maps, suspicious sailors, distant islands and the constant question of who Jim can truly trust.

It’s exactly the kind of timeless adventure that belongs in B4TV’s Great Storytelling Sunday — one of those stories generations already know, rediscovered through voices, music, sound effects and imagination.
