Lux Radio Theater – A Star is Born {Robert Montgomery, Janet Gaynor}

Lux Radio Theatre presents A STAR IS BORN, starring Janet Gaynor and Robert Montgomery.

A young woman arrives in Hollywood dreaming of becoming a star. She finds fame, love and success — but as her career rises, the man she loves begins a heartbreaking descent.

Janet Gaynor recreates the role of Esther Blodgett from the celebrated 1937 motion picture, joined by Robert Montgomery as troubled Hollywood star Norman Maine.

This Lux Radio Theatre production originally aired September 13, 1937, as the program returned from its summer hiatus. The broadcast also featured Lionel Stander and May Robson, with Cecil B. DeMille presenting the production.

Long before later generations knew the story through Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand or Lady Gaga, this was the original Hollywood tragedy — a story about ambition, celebrity, sacrifice and the terrible price fame can demand.
